Jay Tarzia Presents on the Safety of Dry Casks for Storage of Spent Nuclear Fuel

At a recent meeting of the Vermont Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel, Jay Tarzia presented on the safety of dry cask fuel storage containers and their use for long-term storage.  The Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant is currently being placed in SAFSTOR, and is in the process of transferring spent fuel from wet storage into dry casks.  As the chair of the NH State Radiation Advisory Committee, Jay Tarzia’s expertise was sought to describe the construction and safety testing of dry casks to alleviate public concerns.
