RSCS Supports NFPA Upgrades for Nuclear Power Plants
Posted on September 14th, 2012

In 2001, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) issued a guidance document for fire protection at nuclear power plants.  Some power plants have voluntarily upgraded their sites and licensing basis documents to comply with this risk-informed standard.  As part of this upgrade, accidents involving fires and radioactivity need to be evaluated for their potential environmental impact.  RSCS has been retained to support these types of evaluations and to ultimately develop bounding cases based on site conditions and fire suppression/detection capabilities.  These analysis include air and water-borne impacts using dose factors provided in ICRP68.
